Hyper Japans: Kawaii Star of the Year

With Hyper Japan looking for their own Misako Aoki for 2011, I thought i would give it a go.

First of all for those of you who are unaware of who Misako is. In japan she is the government appointed Ambassador of Kawaii along with two other kawaii laddies of japan. Misako is possibly the most famous out of the three because of her large involvement in modeling Gothic lolita and sweet lolita brands.

The three Ambassadors of Kawaii with Misako on the far right.
The application includes 2 pictures of your self in your favourite outfit one head shot and one body shot and a 60 second video of you talking about kawaii and why you would want to be the ambassador

I saw the link on Hyper Japans website, but i think i should apply, soon after my friend kept saying i should, although i believe namalie would be a better appointed ambassador with all her knowledge.

I was firstly going to go with my pink dress, just because it was the first lolita dress i ever got, but Ive come to realize, my lolita style has been changing, Ive started to drift to more classic lolita just because it can fuse my vintage with my lolita. More recently Ive really started to get in to Fairy kei, I'm a big fan of colours, visual kei brings all aspects of a rainbow in 1 outfit and i love that fact, but at the moment i don't realy have a complete fairy kei outfit. My ideal outfit would have been the along the lines of the following.

Omg how much, i love this outfit. I realy realy love the skirt which is from 6%dokidoki.

So as seen as i didn't have the findings to put this together. I decided to stick with the classic lolita that screams out my vintage love.

THE PHOTO SHOOTNot so much a problem, as I'm sooo use to taking pictures and arnt scared of still camera anymore specially when I'm dolled up. With today being my only day off. i had to work on shooting today, As editing can be done over the week. Finding the location was funny, me and my friends were talking about all these areas out of town to only realize after two hours that We had a Village 15 Min's away that had old Victorian houses, This is where the Alfred Hitchcock museum is also based.Walthamstow village is a very small area but we managed to find a few nice places, while i also managed to fascinate some kids and freak out the adults

We took many shots, yet still have to pick the final 2.

Lolita Weddings?

Being a UK based Lolita, I had only come across Lolitas in at conventions. I have now recently seen Lolita fashion leaking in to the media (one example would be Emz appearing on snog marry avoid on BBC Three). Ladies are now willingly walking around in Lolita fashion, even if it is toned down, but nevertheless Lolita has not only taken over Northern America and the UK but it has been embraced all over the world as i currently have girls from Europe and south America on my Facebook friends List that are constantly updating on Lolita wear they want to buy, or have bought and their current Lolita meet ups.

So is it safe to say in the coming years girls will be holding Lolita Weddings? Baby the stars shine bright have recently just released a wedding dress costing 500 GB pounds. Only releasing one dress. I do not know what the fate of Lolita weddings would have. With baby only releasing one dress design, you can tell Baby are not too convinced about venturing in this area. This dress has the traditional white/ivory colour and is then played upon with the bow, detailed arms and the several frilly layers on the dress. Although it has a traditional colour. The dress is actually short and does not touch the ground like traditional dresses.

Baby are not the only company looking to test the waters in this area. A company Japanese company called Uno et L’etoile have also been designing Kawaii dresses. Unlike baby. this company seems more confident as they have released several dresses. although these dresses do seem very dramatic, some are wearable.

Uno et L’etoile have released Three lines.

=> Lovery Princess Room
=> Circus Show Time
=> Gritter of Brides

Starting of with the first line of dresses

For some reason these two dresses remind me of bell from beauty and the beast. This dress heavily relies on manipulating chiffon material. Each individual Flower is sewn on to the dress.

This Dress plays more on the ball room dresses. This dress isn't layered but it has detailed bows and lace decorating the dress. Adding the 3 set of Flowers to the top right hand side of the dress

This has to be my Favourite dress in the Lovery Princess Room collection. I like how its not too poofy yet, it is contrasted with a flowery print, leopard print and adding the flowers to the front of the top and waist. i also like the white lace added to break the patterns up so they do not clash.

This is the last dress in this collection, This is probably the more wearable in this collection, With its traditional white colour it still Shows the kawaii take on with the blows working from the waist down to the ground.

This next line is probably the more wilder wedding dresses, it has many large abstract details to the dress's.

As you can see the first two dresses work with a base colour combined with stripes and tarted added with the bows. The first dress has a really good colour combination, like Misako, i love the mix of pink and black and always have done. The second dress really makes the tarten stand out, instead of having many bows it has one exaggerated big bow at the front of the dress.

These two dresses are my favourite in this collection, I'm a big fan of flowery prints on black material, personally i think it helps the floral patterns stand out. As for the Second one, i prefer the pink Tarted then the red only because I'm not a big fan of red.

This is once again the more wearable dress in the collection. This dress is probably more Classical Lolita'ish due to its heavy play on lace.

The last two dresses really remind me pirates. if someone would want to wear colour on their wedding, I think these dresses would be perfect.

Lastly is the more Gyaruish dresses. These are very Attention grabbing dresses.

These dresses are manipulated chiffon too, but instead of being flowers they are used to create frills. The top has a pretty sequined detail.

These dresses are sooooooo pretty. I'm torn between the pink and the green, I really like pink but then i know green will always bring out my green eyes. I guess it depends what kind of Lolita you are. the pink would be for sweet Lolita's and the green would be for the Gothic Lolita's.

Lastly the final dress in this collections. This has to be one of the most toned down dresses by this company.

Kawaii Kandee: Hyper Japan pre blog

So the first Hyper Japan was just just over 8 months ago, it was held in The Brewery in Brick lane, East London. I had only attended the Friday, although it wasn't busy, it still had been an amazing day. Me and Namalie* had prepared some outfits for this event. The look we went for was our attempt at Hime-lolita (me) and classical lolita (Namalie). As we was knew too the lolita fashion craze taking over the world by storm. We knew little, so when we look back at our outfits, we tend to cringe lol. We have come along way with lolita fashion since then.

Although our outfits were not even close to the Lolita trend, Hyper Japan still out us in Hyper Japans super stylish girls and guys gallery, so i guess we couldn't have looked that bad could we?

I Think what had impressed them the most was the fact that Namalie made her own outfit from scratch, and with me it was the cake headband Namalie made for me and the shoes redesigned.

Our Outfits

So, Namalie's outfit from top to bottom, starting with the hat, its a normal Madeline style hat with a flower matching her shirt.

Her shirt was made from a deep reddish purplish chiffon material, with a matching shiny ribbon. the arms were puffy.

The skirt was a box pleat skirt with a belt.

she had sandals on with pretty stylish ankle socks. her sandals and socks almost bended in giving it that boot look.

Starting of with the Hairband, Namalie made me this headband from scratch, this head band was inspired by a deco artist on etsy. she then combined the material i used for my belt on that hat.
The cake was made out of clay with a sponge base, the whipped cream was the same whipped cream you use on deco sweets. The bow was then Hot glue gunned to the clay cake.
Then the top was a top i got from Peacocks for 8 Pounds, the arms and back was netted, i had got a pearl layered neckless from primark for 5 Pounds, which i pulled apart keeping each individual string of pearls as a chain, I then Hand sown them to the neck. and the back where the net met the material.

The Skirt was then made of two layers, the bottom layer was a thin silky type material which was box pleated. The top layer was this special material you get from Asian (Indian/Pakistani) Shops, its a thin soft net material with round glue gun drops on it to look like rain drops. which was sew'd on top of the bottom layer, Then to finish it off i made the belt out of this floral material with a massive bow.

The jewelery i choose was pearl bracelets and pastel coloured bead bracelets.

The Shoes were from Peacocks and i super glued the pearls on the heal and the small platform at the bottom.

What to expect this year?

So last year it was pretty amazing, They had so much going on, we had misako come down all the way from japan, the kera magazine hair stylish was walking around n wanted to do my hair, (i think she was rele impressed with my hair colour) so i lot her do my hair, she made it look so awsome, she back combed the back to rele give it that hime look.

The first picture is of Misako, Japans very own Kawaii Ambassador. The second picture is of mome (i think thats her name) Kera Magazines Hair stylist. The third picture is of the finished hair mome done on me, she teased the back, which is the typical hime look.

We also got to wear traditional Kimono's and got pictures taken, I think we got 3 pictures for 12 pounds. Also we got to try japanese food and ice cream, the ice cream was diffrent to western ice cream, they had flavours like Chestnut, Green Tea  and Redbean. Hyper Japan also had travel companys down, Square enix were also there selling their beautifuly detailed anime/game figurines.

JP book store were also there selling magazines, There were people teaching you how make origami, and lastly the typical kawaii stall sellers, selling the cutest keyrings, there were also a loli clothing stall and one stall had the mana clothing range.

Also nico nico dango TV was also there streaming live to japan

Although i wasnt there on the saterday and sunday, They carried out a Kawaii fashion shout, show previews of the new ranges from diffrent popular japanese brands like, angelic pretty, baby the stars shine bright and so on.

As for this year, Hyper Japan promises to be the High Light of Japanese inspired Events in London. They have invited kanon wakashima all the way from japan, for those of you who do not know who she is, shes a popular pop/classical artist in japan, her fusion of modern pop mixed with classical instruments is one of the most unique sounds you will hear, Being the prodogy of Mana, she has estabished well in japan with her look being inspired by the lolita fashion she is favoured by many. Due to Hyper Japan being help in olympia, i reckon we have alot instore this year.
